Biography
After graduating from UCL with a Classics degree, I started out in radio, doing work experience with the legendary Piers Plowright at the BBC and the brilliant Nigel Acheson at Loftus Productions, both inspiring and thoughtful storytellers.
I continued my broadcasting career in television as a Junior Researcher working for Richard Belfield and Christo Hird at Fulcrum Productions on an ill-fated idea to make an obs doc series about the great British Motorway service station. (Peter Dale at Channel 4 said no! Smart bloke.)
Then followed a researcher gig on Private Lives of the Pharaohs at TV6, run by the former BBC Tomorrow's World Editor, Richard Reisz and my first Assistant Producer role on Savage Planet at Granada in Manchester.
In 2001, David Henshaw at Hardcash Productions hired me as an AP on my first Dispatches (Down the Tube about the London Underground) for Channel 4, also my first job in current affairs. I can't have made a total pig's ear of it, because David kindly recommended me to Clive Edwards, then Editor of BBC's Money Programme, who bless him gave me a job and my first film to make as a P/D.
Then followed 25 years of graft as a producer/director, basically bashing out a whole variety of singles and series on all manner of subjects for whoever would employ me - plus a variety of extraordinary trips to extraordinary places - Alaska, Haiti, Uganda, Egypt - to name a few... places and people I will never forget.
I did find time to have a family along the way - an amazing son and a daughter who are now in their twenties. Plus a step-son and daughter from my second marriage.
These days I am usually to be found walking the dogs or growing stuff on my allotment. Courgettes mostly...
Did I mention I also teach?
I'm a part time Lecturer in Broadcast Journalism and Content Production for The London School of Film & Media at the University of West London.
And I teach A Level Photography, Film Studies and Media Studies at City of Oxford College.
I am available for weddings and bar mitzvahs, as the saying goes.
Feel free to get in touch if you think I can help you.
